So the number one field I see many people transitioning into UX from is the field of graphic design.
This can include digital media, fine arts, or even industrial design, but especially for those that are more visually oriented are looking for more of a UI job as opposed to a UX job, this is an excellent opportunity to start a new career while also continuing to use your existing skillset.
If you’re an ex-illustrator, animator, painter, photographer, or even dabble in design at all, your skillset is extremely valuable here.
If you’re coming from this field, you should already have a lot of experience with digital design tools such as
- or AutoCAD,
and those skills will easily translate over into popular UI design tools such as
To name a few. You’ll also have the experience of presenting to stakeholders or showing off your work, which is extremely important if you want to justify the design decisions you’ve made.
